Steel Paths of the Future
Today, for travel to two meetings in Ljubljana, I chose Slovenian Railways. I set off by train. I admit, it is my favourite means of transport, although unfortunately it is not the most competitive in most situations.
In any case, due to construction works taking place at the Ljubljana railway junction, the business trip did not proceed particularly smoothly. Still, I reached my destination — of course with a considerable delay, but at least without the hassle of crowds and searching for a parking space.
The construction of the Ljubljana junction, including Ljubljana Railway Station, marks the beginning of building the railway “cross”, which will be a lengthy process—much like the construction of the motorway cross once was. These are important steps that will significantly reshape mobility in the future. In addition to the Ministry of Infrastructure, many other offices and ministries are involved, with most activities being carried out by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning and DRI upravljanje investicij, d. o. o. These activities relate to the preparation of the national spatial plan, one of the key steps towards establishing the basis for land acquisition and the final preparation of project documentation to obtain building permits.
Completion of the motorways took decades, yet today it is hard to imagine life without them. It will be similar with the railway cross and the Ljubljana–Novo mesto–Karlovac–Zagreb route, where activities are under way in Slovenia and Croatia. The path that will serve future generations is long—but attainable. Let us hope this happens as soon as possible.
